The Global Liberal Arts Alliance will undertake or otherwise coordinate the two core activities listed below.
VISITING
FELLOWSHIPS
An institution seeking a particular expertise or a faculty member or administrator seeking an experience in
a particular educational context may initiate these short (days or weeks) or long-term (months or terms) visits. Examples include
the development of operational expertise such as financial modeling, assessment, curricular design in a particular major or components
of a particular academic discipline; or a faculty member or administrator seeking an experience in a specific cultural context (such
as in an Arabic-speaking country) or in a place with a particular educational or research resource.
As an overseas experience
tends to be more positive if the traveler is prepared for the cultural and language differences that he or she will encounter.
The Global Alliance will provide those who are planning to travel with cultural orientation through facilitated electronic interactions
between people at the sending and receiving institutions. These orientation sessions should prepare administrators and faculty
members to succeed abroad, and, in so doing, enable this network of liberal arts colleges to fulfill its mission in myriad settings.
LEADER
MEETINGS
Annual meetings of presidents and/or deans of Global Alliance Colleges will enable institutional leaders to
consider issues that affect the vitality of liberal arts education worldwide. Such meetings could spur the adoption of
particular thematic emphases within the Alliance and possibly yield targeted partnership activities.
